What we're all about:

To whom it may concern:
Autism is a complex neurological disorder that is hard to fully understand. There are different degrees to which autism can affect the individual as well the family and friends of those loved ones.

My family has been specially blessed in that we have been gifted with two individuals who we can share this complex journey with together and learn more and more from each day. Over the years, I have personally learned to grow with them in ways I had never thought previously possible. Watching an older and younger cousin both grow in different ways has led me to take part in the autistic community, such as volunteering time to P.S. 44 as a high school student, and more recently, becoming a member of the Autism Speaks Community, which regularly raises money to fund the study of autism. This past October, my family proudly rose over $2000 as we took part in the Staten Island walk that generated over $50,000 for Autism Speaks.

My name is Joseph Calabrese and I am closely studying Sports Communication and Journalism at Marist College. This idea of Team Puzzled came to me one day when I was thinking about ways I can give back to the rest of the autism community. My love of sports is unparalleled, and recently, as I’ve seen my cousin Thomas grow, as well as other friends who have been gifted with this same, unique journey, I have started to notice a trend that includes a lot of recreational activity. If I could define sports in my own way, I would leave out its competitive nature. Sports, for me, are a getaway, but more importantly, it’s a way to bring people together and stay active.

They say a healthy mind is a mind that moves. There is no way at the present time to understand just how much the mind of an autistic child moves. That said, there is no reason why we can’t adjust ourselves to the best of our abilities and create a community that tries its best to adjust to their speed.

To our Readers:

Like most of our readers, there will never be a full understanding of autism here.

This site is designed as a gateway for sports-minded people to come and share together their related experiences and build off of each other and birth ways to merge the sports community with the autism community and make them closer than ever.

The content provided on this site will include:
- Activities (and how sports) help out the mind of an autistic child and its health benefits.
- Specific medicine and its benefits alongside recreational activity
- Fund-raisers and events, throughout the country, on large and local levels that display just how sports (whether it’s a high school team raising money, or a player getting into a game) is a positive influence to the autism community.
- Other organizations that are active and well-represented in the autism community.
- Inspirational stories and other advice from the community.

Every bit of input is important. We are all one team. Team Puzzled.
